3 March 2023, Radom, Poland: 57-year-old Olena Koval from Kyiv, who fled Ukraine with her sister in March 2022, uses a translation app to communicate with staff from the Lutheran World Federation. Koval is one of many Ukrainian refugees receiving support from the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland (an LWF member church), Radom Parish. Among other activities – following the arrival of Ukrainian refugees in Poland as Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022 – the parish offers Polish classes in order to help refugees integrate and find new opportunities in Polish society. The classes are supported by the Lutheran World Federation.
