  • 17 March 2022, Siret, Romania: An aid worker is interviewed at the Vama Siret border crossing, Romania. The Vama Siret border crossing connects northeast Romania with Ukraine. Located north of Siret and further in the south the city of Suceava, the crossing connects Romania with the Ukrainian village of Terebleche and further north the city of Chernivtsi. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian military starting on 24 February 2022, close to half a million refugees have fled across the Ukrainian border into Romania. In the past 24 hours, government figures indicate more than 50,000 people have crossed the border in search of refuge, an estimated 20 percent of whom are expected to stay in Romania, rather than transit into other European countries.

  • 4 June 2019, Meiganga, Cameroon: 23-year-old CAR refugee Gbami Marina is member of one of the Ngam refugee camp's two listening clubs. As a group, they gather regularly to listen to peace messages broadcast by the Lutheran World Federation by radio. They then take the messages and share them with their communities to support peaceful cohabitation in the camp. Supported by the Lutheran World Federation, the Ngam refugee camp, located in the Meiganga municipality, Adamaoua region of Cameroon, hosts 7,228 refugees from the Central African Republic, across 2,088 households.

  • 2 April 2022, Palorinya settlement, Obongi district, Uganda: Solar panel drives a radio in a home in the Palorinya refugee settlement in Obongi district in northern Uganda. The Palorinya refugee settlement, in Obongi district, West Nile area of northern Uganda, hosts more than 128,000 refugees, the majority of which arrived following the eruption of war in South Sudan in 2013. Palorinya is the second largest refugee settlement in Uganda. The refugees and host communities in the area receive support from the Lutheran World Federation World Service program in Uganda.
