  • 4 September 2022, Karlsruhe, Germany: Celebrating the occasion of the World Council of Churches' 11th Assembly, Sunday service is held at the Friedenskirche in Karlsruhe. The service, attended by a range of ecumenical guests, is televised live by German broadcaster ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen), and attended by a 94-year-old woman who was present when the church was originally built -- then raised as a temporary structure (a so-called 'Notkirche') using bricks from the then bombed city hall in Karlsruhe. The church was inaugurated in 1949. The 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches is held in Karlsruhe, Germany from 31 August to 8 September, under the theme "Christ's Love Moves the World to Reconciliation and Unity." Here, the symbol of a boat decorates the altar.

  • 18 October 2022, Bytom, Poland: An angel bearing the colours of the Ukrainian flag sits on a chest of drawers, as 14-year-old Liliia from Ukraine spends her evening studying in her bedroom. The family, made up of Lilliia and her mother Katiia Kharytoniuk her younger sister Sofija (5) arrived as refugees in Poland from Uman, Ukraine, in March 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After three months staying in the home of a Polish family, the family now lives in a building at the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland parish in Bytom. The family has two rooms for themselves, and share a kitchen, bathroom and a playing room for children with a couple of other families from Ukraine. Liliia's mother Katiia is an economist, and before fleeing the war, worked as a sales manager at a factory manufacturing furniture. The father of the family remains in Ukraine, as at times of war, men aged 18-60 are not allowed to leave the country, under martial law.

Anne Burghardt holds a white dove handed to her by a group of South Sudanese refugee women from the Kuku ethnic group, as a sign of peace as Burghardt arrives at the 'God's Grace' women's self-help group in the Palorinya refugee settlement. The Palorinya refugee settlement, in Obongi district, West Nile area of northern Uganda, hosts more than 128,000 refugees, the majority of which arrived following the eruption of war in South Sudan in 2013. Palorinya is the second largest refugee settlement in Uganda. The refugees and host communities in the area receive support from the Lutheran World Federation World Service program in Uganda.

The convent accommodates 62 sisters vowed to lifelong service. At the convent, they take care of farming and livestock, and engage in a variety of diaconal activities in surrounding communities.

  • 18 October 2022, Bytom, Poland: An angel bearing the colours of the Ukrainian flag sits on a chest of drawers, as 14-year-old Liliia from Ukraine spends her evening studying in her bedroom. The family, made up of Lilliia and her mother Katiia Kharytoniuk her younger sister Sofija (5) arrived as refugees in Poland from Uman, Ukraine, in March 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After three months staying in the home of a Polish family, the family now lives in a building at the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland parish in Bytom. The family has two rooms for themselves, and share a kitchen, bathroom and a playing room for children with a couple of other families from Ukraine. Liliia's mother Katiia is an economist, and before fleeing the war, worked as a sales manager at a factory manufacturing furniture. The father of the family remains in Ukraine, as at times of war, men aged 18-60 are not allowed to leave the country, under martial law.

Located in the Kennedy area, the church has recently celebrated 50 years. As part of its ministry, the church runs a school and college, The Colegio Evangelico Luterano de Colombia (CELCO) San Lucas, offering education to just over 1,000 students aged 3-18. The school started as a social initiative offering care for children aged 0-4 in Bogotá's less wealthy neighbourhood, allowing the parents opportunities to go to work. 36 years after its foundation, the school employs 56 staff, of which 36 are teachers.

The villagers in Ma’alul were mostly Palestinian Christians and Muslims, and the houses of worship still remain on the hilltop.

  • 15 April 2019, Jerusalem: Ecumenical Accompaniers (EAs) from the World Council of Churches gather in Saint Anne’s Basilica in Jerusalem. Through a candlelight ceremony, one group of EAs pass on the challenge of their ministry to another. Each group of accompaniers spends three months in the Holy Land, providing protective presence, monitoring human rights violations, and collecting documentation of life under occupation, as well as initiatives for peace.

  • 12 March, 2022, Partizánska Ľupča, Slovakia: An orthodox icon sits on the baptismal font in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Partizánska Ľupča. The icon has been brought to the church by Ukrainian refugees currently hosted by families in the congregation, and the local pastor has placed it on the baptismal font as a token of hospitality to the refugees, and as a symbol that 'in baptism we are all one family'. The 150-person strong congregation at Partizánska Ľupča has received and currently hosts 82 Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war caused by the Russian invasion of the country in late February. While 22 of the refugees live in a building connected to the parsonage, 60 are being hosted directly in families of the congregation.

On 15 March, a group of Ecumenical accompaniers from the World Council of Churches were invited to share Shabbat dinner with the Kol HaNeshama congregation in Jerusalem. Kol HaNeshama is a reformed Jewish congregation of 350 families in Jerusalem, and one that works actively to be a focal point for Jewish pluralism and social action in the area.

Gathering as part of the celebrations of the World Council of Churches 70th anniversary in 2018, the youth spend three days together to explore what it means to be young pilgrims in the ecumenical movement today.
